Bayesian Curl Mistakes to Avoid
Standing too close to the machine — you need to step forward enough to get the arm-behind-body stretch. This is the whole point.
Elbow drifting forward — the arm must stay behind the body throughout. Forward drift eliminates the long head stretch.
Going too heavy — the stretched position makes you weaker. Use light weight and feel the stretch-to-contraction.
Rushing — 2-3 seconds on the negative back to the stretch is where the magic happens.
Bayesian Curl FAQ
What is a Bayesian curl?
A cable curl done facing away from the machine so the arm is pulled behind the body. Named after fitness coach Menno Henselmans (Bayesian Bodybuilding). It maximally stretches the bicep long head under constant cable tension.
Bayesian curl vs incline curl?
Very similar muscles targeted. Bayesian curl provides constant cable tension (no dead spot). Incline curl provides a deeper stretch at the bottom. Both are excellent for the long head. Bayesian is arguably superior due to the cable tension.
How heavy for Bayesian curls?
Light — 5-15kg on the cable. The stretched position and constant tension make light weight very effective. If you need more than 15kg, your form is probably off.
Can I do Bayesian curls with a band?
Yes — anchor a band behind you at low height and perform the same movement. Bands work but have a different resistance curve (harder at the top, easier at the bottom).
